Please *always* use dpkg-source -x instead.

This is inconsistent with my own tests, but we will see with the new
version I am preparing.

You can rebuild it with "debuild -nc" (-nc is for dpkg-buildpackage, it
means to not clean, which I would recommend when debugging stuff). You
would also obviously be able to call "make" directly as well.
