This sounds as if you are simply guessing.  I can see no indication in
the mplayer source that it supports RDT either; it supports RTP with the
same variety of modes that gstreamer seems to.

Do you know how to coerce mplayer to say what transport it is using?
(Or xine, which is also able to play the stream?)

Let's leave the bug as a real bug, and not change the title, until we
have real evidence what is happening rather than just a guess.
