Advise for "private" backporting of 4 gstreamer packages

Hi there,

In our scientific collaboration (http://www.ligo.org/ et al.) a working group
decided to perform data analysis based on the gstreamer framework. As the
initial planning and coding began even before the freeze for squeeze, the bold
decision was made to use the most recent versions of gstreamer at that time,
but freeze these within their own development.

For Lenny we put their required packages to /opt/ so that only those who need
these could use them from there - as the whole collaboration is using 5 data
centers with ~ 3000 computers right now, plus was using Debian Lenny and
CentOS5 and now Debian Squeeze and Scientific Linux 6 as the reference
platforms the whole picture in the background is a bit more complex than that
;))

Now my problem, they need to have libgstreamer 0.10.32, *plugins-base 0.10.32
*plugin-good 0.10.27 and python-gstreamer 0.10.21, all other dependencies
which were not met in Lenny are now met. I tried hard to backport 0.10.35 from
wheezy to squeeze, however, was not good enough to do that mostly due to much
newer build-deps. Another failed attempt was trying to use the build framework
for Squeeze's 0.10.30 and use the source of 0.10.32, but failed due to me not
able to work with 3.0 (quilt) :(

Thus, I'd like to learn from you if you ever packaged these packages or had
any advise how to proceed. In the mean time I put the stuff again under /opt
to have at least something working.

Cheers and TIA

Carsten
