Package: gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
Version: 0.10.19-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I am converting flac files to mp3 using soundconverter. Using
gnome-audio-profiles-properties, I created an audio profile named "MP3
lame extreme standard", based on existing profile "CD Quality, MP3",
with the following GStreamer pipeline:

audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lamemp3enc name=enc target=0 quality=0 encoding-engine-quality=1 ! xingmux ! id3v2mux

I then scanned the resulting mp3 files with mp3diags. mp3diags showed
this error message for every flac file I converted to mp3 using that
audio profile:

Frame count mismatch between the xing header and the audio stream

For file "05 A Woman Left Lonely.mp3", for example, mp3diags reports
that the MPEG audio stream has 9282 frames, but the xing header
indicates that the frame count is 9281. For all converted mp3 files, the
frame count in the xing header was always 1 frame less than the actual
frame count in the MPEG audio stream. I am attaching the mp3 file and a
snapshot of the mp3diags screen showing its xing header and the MPEG
audio stream.

As far as I can observe, I cannot see if this error has any adverse
effects on the usage of the mp3 files I have just converted: I manage to
play them without problems. But I am cautious whether it might adversely
affect other converted mp3 files.

As I'm trying to migrate from soundkonverter 0.3.8 to soundconverter, in
order to compare them I also converted the flac files to mp3 using
soundkonverter, with this lame command line:

/usr/bin/lame --preset extreme --id3v2-only --nohist

I also scanned the resulting mp3 files with mp3diags. mp3diags showed
that a lame header was created, instead of a xing header, but with the
correct frame count. For the above mentioned file "05 A Woman Left
Lonely.mp3", for example, the lame header indicated that the frame count
was 9282.

I'm using mp3diags version 1.0.10.065

I hope I haven't forgotten to include any other relevant piece of
information. Please let me know if I can help debug this problem.

Regards

Paulo
