I looked at it in relation to upstream's 0.10 tree and confirmed that it
appears to match

It looks like a reasonable and minimal fix based on upstream's
description of what was causing the problem. The fact that it was pulled
in to the 0.10 tree by one of the usual uploaders of the package also
gives me confidence that it is likely to be correct.
