I use horde3 (3.1-1) and imp4 (4.0.4-3) with the same
configuration (IMP authentification via IMAP) on sarge.

Trivial ideas :

- What is your IMAP server ? Is direct access via IMAP so fast ?
- Do you open directly on your mailbox ? If yes, perhaps slow
  IMAP checks (try to open to horde home).
- Have you try with a new user ?
