If you have it move deleted items to the trash, then the "purge deleted" 
will disappear and you will have an "empty trash" button instead.  If 
you have it just mark the items as deleted, the "empty trash" will 
disappear and you will instead have a "purge deleted" button.  As they 
say, this is a feature, not a bug.
