I am not worried :-)

I clarified the challenges I see in porting to bpo as a help, in cases
someone else doing it.

I am backporting ffmpeg now (I expect newer releases produce higher
quality images and/or run faster) and will backport ffmpeg2theora 0.21
linked against that.

If interested (you mentioned it was some time ago you'd been playing
with backporting), this is the chain of backport pools I create/use so
far:

1. src: build tools, like debhelper and cdbs

2. ffmpeg-src: libs needed by ffmpeg, like libfaad2

3. icecast-src: libs needed by icecast tools, like libav* and libtheora

4. icecast: icecast tools, like icecast2 itself and ffmpeg2theora

Pools ending in src have a corresponding pbuilder (or cowbuilder)
build environment setup, subscribes to that and earlier pools. So e.g.
icecast-src includes both src and ffmpeg-src, but not icecast (or any
other of the 60+ pools at http://debian.jones.dk/pkg/ ).

Each package is build in the most conservative possible build
environment. So libraries that don't need any special of the backports
to build is _not_ built using the backported debhelper but just in a
plain vanilla etch environment.
