Hi All,

I am using Debian 5 with the "en_US.UTF-8" locale and have just
installed the "scim" package. After the "scim" installation, I could start
the "scim" daemon with the required environment variables as follows :

*debian:/etc/scim# XMODIFIERS="@im=SCIM"
debian:/etc/scim# export XMODIFIERS
debian:/etc/scim# GTK_IM_MODULE="xim"
debian:/etc/scim# export GTK_IM_MODULE
debian:/etc/scim# /usr/bin/scim -d
Smart Common Input Method 1.4.7

Launching a SCIM daemon with Socket FrontEnd...
Loading simple Config module ...

GTK Panel of SCIM 1.4.7

Starting SCIM as daemon ...
SCIM has been successfully launched.
debian:/etc/scim# *

However, when I open a blank document with "gedit", I could not switch
to Chinese Input mode using "ctrl-space".

Does anyone know what's the problem ? Thanks for any suggestion.

Regards
Lawrence
