Subject: inetutils-inetd: fails to start service fam
Package: inetutils-inetd
Version: 2:1.4.2+20030703-6
Severity: normal

I noticed that nautilus was no longer automatically refreshing it's
views and traced this back to the fact that the fam server wasn't
being started.

The fam startup script /etc/init.d/fam does this:

# Stop if we are running from inetd
egrep -q "^(sgi_fam|391002)" /etc/inetd.conf && exit 0

and indeed, there is this line in /etc/inetd.conf:

#:OTHER: Other services
sgi_fam/1-2 stream rpc/tcp wait root /usr/sbin/famd fam

Now I unfortuneately don't know anything about inetd, but I do take
this all to mean that inetd should be listening to the fam socket and
should be starting famd whenever some app (like nautilus) wants to
connect. At any rate, inetd never starts the famd on my machine.
