We fully support the LIO stack (the package is 'targetcli-fb') for iSCSI targets in Stretch. Unfortunately there is no automatic way to migrate the configuration.

There has been no update to the IET project in the last three years and the kernel module does not compile anymore with recent kernel versions, including the one shipped with Stretch. For this reason it was dropped from Debian and is unlikely to return unless someone revives the IET project.

Unfortunately we forgot to mention this in the release notes for Stretch. I've taken steps to rectify that and hopefully they will be updated by a paragraph about this soon.

Unless you have distributions with older kernels in mind (for example older Debian versions), they will all suffer from the same problem when it comes to IET. You should switch to the LIO stack, as that is fully supported in Debian stretch, but also other distributions.

Christian
