Summary: Please provide complete support for crh locale
Part: General

Initial Comment:
I don't know for sure whether it matters, but I don't see crh listed in:
/iso-codes-3.8/notes/language-in-locales.txt
and
/iso-codes-3.8/notes/territory-in-locales.txt
And the same for 3.7.

On Ubuntu, crh is not listed in gdm languages list, even though it can be selected as a default language. I believe that the above plays a major part in it, or constitutes the entire root cause of that issue. I hope this can be resolved ASAP.

Thanks.

Turns out Ubuntu is using an old version of gdm, which compiles gdm languages in. Hopefully they can add crh locale to their gdm build, or upgrade it, towards Fall release.
I think we can close this ticket. If i run into something like this in a distro using an up-to-date gdm release, i might run this by you guys one more time.

Thanks!

Hi,

you're right, the files you mentioned are indeed provided by the iso-codes package. However, they have not been updated for the last five(!) years and are scheduled for removal -- essentially, they are not needed because you can extract more information from the XML files.

I had a brief look into the source code of gdm -- they seem to use the XML files and the translations provided as .mo files by our package. What makes you think that the text files (notes/language-in-locales.txt and notes/territory-in-locales.txt) are used by gdm and play a major part?

I would suggest to contact the gdm folks about your problem with crh.

HTH,
Tobias

The following files are from the ftp download that you guys have:
notes/language-in-locales.txt
notes/territory-in-locales.txt

Do you mean that you take them from another project, and include them in your releases?

P.S. I don't and wouldn't expect you guys to fix the gdm languages list issue, but i'm trying to make sure that all i's are dotted for the crh locale within iso-codes releases.

I don't exactly understand what you mean in this bug report. The files you mention are not provided by the iso-codes package.

crh, namely Crimean Turkish, is listed in the ISO-639-3 list we provide.

I think that having crh listed in gdm languages requires talking with the GNOME folks more than us...
