Initial Comment:
with gettext 0.19 and iso-codes 3.54 I get the following error:

$:/tmp/iso-codes> make
Making all in iso_15924

Replacing '--check' with '--check-format --check-domain' in MSGFMT_FLAGS of configure.ac fixes the error.
