[Cc: to jed-users, although this will mainly interest Debian users]

I just uploaded the jed-extra_1.0-1 package to the experimental
distribution. This package is now adopted by the DJG (Debian JED Group)
at alioth.debian.org. It has undergone a substantial overhaul and this
is the reason I did not upload it to unstable.

I used in this new version the jedmodes tarball, along with the missing
walk.sl file that was not in the tarball but was needed for proper
working of some modes. I put a lot of effort to ensure that the modes
have the right autoloads and add_completions in /etc/jed-init.d. There
is now a /etc/jed-init.d/50jed-extra.sl file that contains just:

    () = evalfile ("jed-extra");

jed-extra.slc is a byte compiled file installed in
/usr/share/jed/site-lib/. This file is composed of several *.rc files
that are added to the package by the following patch file:

    http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-jed/trunk/packages/jed-extra/patches/rc-files.patch?op=file&rev=0&sc=0

It would be ideal to have these *.rc files integrated upstream in
jedmodes. Another possibility is to generalize the use of
<INITIALIZATION> tags using make_ini.

You will also notice that a quite big amount of upstream files had to be
patched in order to get the modes working correctly. You will find the
patches here:

    http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-jed/trunk/packages/jed-extra/patches/

I could volunteer to apply those patches directly to the CVS repository
of jedmodes.sf.net and move then away from the Debian package.

I will be unavailable, way from computers and e-mail, from tomorrow until
after Eastern. Feel free to fix any problems with the package following
the instructions in the DJG Guidelines. More information is to be found
at our web page:
