My suggestion would be to leave the standard ispell as-is and, if possible,
add aspell-initialisation support to the jed-extra version of ispell.sl.

My ideal would be a similar working and naming independent of ispell or
aspell use (i.e. System->Ispell->Dictionary).

Would it be possible, to have a dictionary initialisation similar to the one
for ispell (using dictionaries-common) when using aspell with the jed-extra
version of ispell.sl?

BTW: we could consider placing the Debian specific part of ispell_init.sl
into a jed-extra startup file.
