IMHO:
* History should be preserved, all the releases of the John package should
  be uploaded and tagged as such
* The SVN repo just has the debian/ subdir, which is fine now that it's using 
  cdbs but might not for older releases or in the future. It also
  does not help catch problems introduced because the sources are changed
  but there is no patch file
* If SVN is going to be used then the CVS repo should be removed, having
  http://cvs.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/pkg-john/ available
  leads to confusion
* Commit e-mails should be enabled in the repo
* The SVN repo should be accesible from the Alioth homepage, currently there
   is no pointer to any source revision control
