I think the biggest problem with this is that the issue has not been publicized (besides this bugreport), e.g. on kmail.kde.org. Such bugs are about as critical as security issues, so there should be a channel to inform users about this.

I'm sure there are a lot of users still using old versions of kmail/kontact which are still vulnerable to this problem. I wouldn't want to wait for them to find out about this bug by themselves...
