haha, ok, one more try: use the member name from try 1, and move the comment
above the commented out d pointer, altering it to something like "for binary
compatibility reasons, this class must have exactly one data member which is a
pointer. if more members are added, uncomment the private object and move the
members into it".

yes, i was also wondering about #5. i assume it was eaten by today's date.
