One thing about git is that using it over http is *really* *painful* in the
long run.  Maybe you should try to get a native git server in there?

git-buildpackage and the other git package helpers can be... weird.  Good
luck with them :p

For one thing, there is absolutely NO packaged tool that can import a series
of debian source packages to git without screwing up.  All of them do
very idiotic things, to the point that you start wondering if the people
writing them grok git at all...
