Almost the same I guess.
You need upload permissions though you don't have as sponsored
maintainer (which is what you are in most cases as a first step).
If you did that job already for some time, you may apply as maintainer
as well: See http://wiki.debian.org/DebianMaintainer (don't be confused
about "Debian New Maintainers" and "Debian Developers", those are
another story again)

This gives you the ability to upload packages on your own for each
Debian branch for the packages you do maintain. That would definitively
make sense for you, as you seem to be the most active maintainer for
lighttpd right now.
