Thanks for reporting this, I'll look into this issue over the next few 
days. Unfortunately it won't be eligible for a wheezy unblock anymore, 
but the issue can be worked around easily:
-d --device=device		read from given device
In the meantime just call mode2 (or xmode2) with --device=/dev/lirc0
