I know Ubuntu turn off VERBOSE boot, and use some progress bar with
the splash screen support.  I have no idea how hard it is to enable in
Debian, but am positive to try.  I've changed a few more init.d
scripts to use the VERBOSE flag, and believe we should continue doing
that until it is posible to do a quiet boot with only errors showing
up.
