jetpipe should already be in sid and lenny, its quite old (entered
ubuntu during the feisty development cycle around a year ago) its just
being rewritten in C for the next release and we think its grown up
enough now to deserve its own package as well :)

the nbd stuff is tricky for debian as ubuntu stuck with unionfs 1.4 for
several releases due to stability issues in newer unionfs releases.
i heard very recently the unionfs in sid was changed and shall work
stable with nbd now ...

i think vagrant includes the ubuntu initramfs hooks and scripts for
nbd/unionfs in the sid package.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/LTSPWithoutNFS has a small
howto at the bottom for people on ubuntu who want to revert to nfs, if
you go through it in reverse direction that might probably work.
(note BOOT needs to be nbd in the nbd case)

good luck :)
