I have had this problem after a complete upgrade to etch and I have the
same problem using backported initramfs-tools with backported kernel
2.6.18 or 2.6.17 in sarge.

The hooks I have under /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks are:
kernelextras thermal udev
In which of these ones I have to add vgscan?
