Yes, I meant to say etch.

That's even better since newer multipath-tools versions also need newer
udev. So if you want to run on etch sticking to 0.4.8-7 isn't that bad.

You should also be able to fetch 1.0.24.orig.tar.gz from
archive.debian.net.

If you can run lenny, yes.
