Thanks. I got it to apply after one small hiccup.

I'll give the new partx binary a try and then try installing the new.debs:
 libdevmapper1.02.1_1.02.24-4_i386.deb
 multipath-tools-boot_0.4.8-7~bpo40+1_i386.deb
 multipath-tools_0.4.8-7~bpo40+1_i386.deb
 kpartx_0.4.8-7~bpo40+1_i386.deb

Do I need
 dmsetup_1.02.24-4_i386.deb
as well?
Presumably
 libdevmapper-dev_1.02.24-4_i386.deb
is only needed if I need it for other thiings I have installed?
