This looks like a bug then. Can you add a:

# X-Start-Before:    checkfs mountall
# X-Stop-After:      umountfs

to the init scripts lsb headers and let insserv reorder the links? Most
people have this stuff on LVM which already handles this.

That's only needed if your rootfs is on multipath.
