Because this functionality is vitaly needed in some situations,
and without it being documented in the man-page the only
way to find out it is there is to ask somebody who knows. 
That is not enough, unless it has become policy to hide
vital information and force people to read the source to find
out what things can do, like in the bad old days...

It is fixed upstream by now though.
