Right. What I meant was that the lyx package can't be a
"depend-on-everything" because people has to install it to get all the
LyX binaries. There's not really a choice whether to install the lyx
package or not.

Here's what I think:
* Only the lyx package should have recommends/suggests. People
shouldn't need to look at lyx-common.
* lyx should Depend: on packages which are strictly needed to run LyX.
* lyx should Recommend: packages which a "typical user" needs. I think
a typical user will use LyX to create DVI, PS, PDF and HTML, so lyx
should recommend the corresponding packages.
* Everything else goes into Suggests:.
The result should look something like:
Depends: lyx-common, lyx-qt | lyx-xforms | lyx-gtk, tetex-bin (>=
2.0.2-11) | texlive-latex-base, tetex-extra |
texlive-latex-recommended, tetex-extra | texlive-fonts-recommended,
preview-latex-style, libtiff-tools, imagemagick, mime-support
Recommends: dvipost, kghostview | postscript-viewer,
kpdf | pdf-viewer, konqueror | www-browser,
tex4ht | hevea | tth | latex2html, kdeprint | lpr
Suggests: chktex, nowebm, groff, sgmltools-lite, linuxdoc-tools, rcs,
gnuhtml2latex, wv
There are some dependencies I don't know much about. Why do we need
mime-support? Why do we need imagemagick? Should libtiff-tools be
moved to Recommends:? Should the TeX stuff be in Recommends: since
it's not strictly required?
