I think it's not that much time wasted by svn-buildpackage to prepare the full source
to be ready and my current PC is far away from state of the art hardware.

If you think that it helps you go ahead and change it. I don't think it will make
such a big difference for me. I just think that it's waste of space to have
the complete source in the repo but disc space is cheap nowdays.
It sucks a little bit to check in every new upstream release but I don't think that
it would hurt me that much. ;)
