Now that is all very strange. Setting LC_ALL=C didn't help at all but I
recognised that LyX ignored my LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 setting so I set
LC_ALL=de_DE.UTF-8 and now it's working fine and fast. Ok I thought
let's see how I can turn it back and I unset LC_ALL, restarted lyx and
it's still fast. Ok maybe it safed something in .lyx and so I deleted .lyx
with no change. It's still fast and working. I even rebooted and deleted the
.lyx directory and I can't turn it back in this very slow and cpu intensive
mode. However that happend. I would be glad if I could find some condition to
reproduce it but it seems impossible.
I'll build the lyx svn trunk now once again with --without-included-gettext
and see how that works.

Hm at least worth a try when I need it next time.
Cheers,
