[Pkg-lyx-devel] Bug#529406: after upgrade from etch, lyx offers no file export methods

Package: lyx
Version: 1.5.5-1

To reproduce:
1) run lyx 1.4.3-3 on a Debian etch system, generating a fresh ~/.lyx/
   directory.
2) upgrade to lenny
3) run lyx again, with the same ~/.lyx/ configuration directory.
4) Look at File -> Export (possibly after opening a file). The only
choice is Custom, and if one chooses that one is presented with a
list of export formats which one can select, but no matter what I
do the "OK" and "Apply" buttons remain greyed out; only the "Close"
   or "Cancel" button is functional.

By contrast, the following works:
1) remove the old ~/.lyx/ directory from version 1.4.3-3.
2) run lyx 1.5.5-1
3) File -> Export shows a fully-populated menu with functional entries.

I couldn't find the need to regenerate the LyX configuration after an
upgrade from 1.4.x documented in any of the following places:
-- the release notes for Debian 5.0;
-- the various files in /usr/share/doc/lyx/. The UPGRADING file does
contain the following sentence: "LyX 1.5.x is able to read old preferences
files, but it will save them in the new format, so it is not possible to
run LyX 1.4.x and 1.5.x with the same personal configuration directory."
However, my interpretation of such a statement is that while one can't go
back to 1.4.x with a personal configuration directory that has been touched
by 1.5.x, upgrades ought to be handled transparently to the user.
