Emphasize a word (e.g. "This is a <Ctrl-e>line</ctrl-e> of text.")
Highlight any portion of that line, making sure to include some of the 
emphasized word.
Cut (ctrl-c, or edit/cut, or Shift-Del).
Watch LyX disappear, along with your document, no warning.
