No association with madwifi-ng

Hi,

I've been using Madwifi for ages. Ever since madwifi-ng came out, I
cannot use it. Right now, I'm still using a Debian package made from
svnr1500 (not even sure if that's an official package).

Symptom: Not getting a connection, either encrypted (WPA) or not. The
driver is built from source provided by madwifi-source package using
module-assistant. I have attached entries from /var/log/syslog from an
attempt to associate.

I tried something around svnr16?? and now svnr1809 as soon as it hit
testing.

I am using NetworkManager and wpa_supplicant (both latest Debian/testing
versions), and the built-in card of a Thinkpad T41p (AR5212). The
symptoms are always the same: I am not able to connect. I first I
thought my WPA setup at home was faulty (which shouldn't be, as svnr1500
and Windows are perfectly connecting to it).

Now I can definitely rule out WPA, as my school's network is
unencrypted. I am also sure to be able to rule out NM or wpasupplicant,
as both versions have been around for a long time. From the latest
tickets on madwifi.org, I can tell that NM is common enough to be able
to work with madwifi flawlessly.

I would really like to use a more recent version of madwifi, but I seem
to be unable to make the switch. Maybe I'm overlooking something
important here, so I didn't want to report a bug right away. But this
issue is most annoying!
