I don't think this is the same issue, but maybe I misunderstood you:
svnr1500 is the LAST KNOWN WORKING CONFIGURATION for my laptop. The card
gets detected alright, I just cannot use it whatsoever with anything
later than svnr1500.

Ah, I see now, my subject line should have been more specific. I didn't
remember that svnr1500 is already madwifi-ng -- all this is too long ago...

Maybe I *should* file a bug after all!
