Hi!

I received your message through the webmaster of the Kanotix site. This
package is actually developed for debian proper, so I'm CC'ing the list
with your message.

Thanks, Kel.

Subject : madwifi-ng-tools package from
experimental and iproute dependency

I backported 0.9.0+svn1401-3 version to Sarge
(everything works fine as sta) and I noticed that
the madwifi-ng-tools package should not strictly
depend on iproute.

As a matter of fact, iroute is only necessary
(correct me if i am wrong) in
/etc/network/if-pre-up.d/madwifi to test if the
athX interface is already created. From my point
of view, the "ip link list" command (if ip link
list $IFACE &>/dev/null; then) provides more
information than strictly needed for that test and
could be easily replaced by something like:

"if [ -d /sys/class/net/$IFACE ]; then" (this
works at least for a 2.6 kernel with sysfs file
system support, such test could be improve
for more general configuration (for example: "cat
/proc/net/dev | grep $IFACE")),
thus avoiding dependency on iproute.

PS: such comment may probably be more usefull as a
wishlist item bug report, but I did not find how
to proceed with Kanotix experimental packages.
