Ok, so the patch seemed to work the day I was tweaking it, but it didn't
work the next day.  So, at best, it's an incomplete fix; however, it's
probably no fix at all, since my problem seems to be the same as this
one:

Either way, the issue does seem to be that the card keeps jumping
channels, rather than locking on to the one matching the essid found in
the initial scan, until you toggle the interface with 'ifup wlan0 down;
ifup wlan0 up'.
