Quick summary: maybe this is two bugs, not one?  Please skip to end for explanation.

Two contrary fixes:

	1) Easy: don't change functions, refine the interface.
	   (draw boxes around stuff)

	2) Harder: Upgrade a function, so the current interface

Fix #1:  New users have it worse; inconsistent interfaces can only be
learned by slow trial & error.  (Consistent standard interfaces 
reward experience.)  Longtime users have the smaller labor
of learning about a small improvement.

Fix #2 requires no change in layout.

I now think this is two bugs that got rolled into one by mistake.
Rephrasing the above fixes as problems gives us these bugs:

	1 (normal/minor) vague interface for Filename search.

	2 (wishlist) make Filename search regex.
