Hello,
Your issue don't really come from mc.
Its your system configuration the culprit.
But, you highlight another question with your bug report.
Why mc in Debian don't use his own editor?
I agree with you to put mcedit as the default editor,
but we need to discuss about it with the pkg-mc-devel team before to
change something.
