For those who want to fix this very nasty thing on their local installation
I just would like to add a complete patch which fixes the issue.

Apropos packaging: I offered to help in uploading fixes like this but it
is not clear to me how to submit the changes to VCS.  I would love to
upload this fix as well as a fix for #616196 as team upload, but I have
no idea if this is welcome and how to use the repository properly.
