As I mentioned earlier it was disabled due to a large number of open
CVEs that apply and were later fixed in Samba, but never ported back to
mc subsequently.

We had plans to rewrite it completely basing upon some smb library so
that the maintenance burden could be offloaded to an external project,
but AFAIK this never happened (although it might happen in the future, I
am no longer current with what the priorities are at this point).

Sorry I am unable to follow the traffic in a timely manner, I do have
some comments (not critical) regarding the last uploads, but I will
voice them as time permits...
