I upgraded a machine running a current etch, and it almost went well.
The machine in question has a RAID 1 on top of which sits lvm2 for /,
/home, and swap.
Using the old initramfs hooks worked fine. I installed, got the notice
that it wasn't going to "pop the trunk" since the old hooks were there,
rebooted, and the machine came back up. I then used the suggested
commands to move to the new hooks and scripts:
rm /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/md
sed -i -e 's,^PREREQ=\"md\"$,PREREQ=\"mdadm\"$,' \
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/lvm
update-initramfs -u -k$(uname -r)
And saw this message:
alec: I: mdadm: rootfs not on RAID, not including RAID stuff
Predicting that it would hose the machine, I rebooted, and got a
"PANIC: Circular dependancy. Exiting" right after "Begin: Running
/scripts/local/top ...".
The new scripts don't seem to recognize lvm-on-RAID.
I'm happy to test any updates.
Alec
