This is caused by this line in the config script:

| db_subst mdadm/initrdstart msg "$(echo -e "${RET}${suffix}" | debconf-escape -e)"

echo -e will not work with /bin/sh=dash.

I guess this is a typo, the maintainer probably wanted to use -n
instead of -e.
