It would help to see the exact error message. I'll check this out.
If you can reproduce the problem (try removing the ARRAY lines
again), please add

  set -x

at the top of /var/lib/dpkg/info/mdadm.postinst and post the entire
output of running
  
  dpkg-recondigure mdadm
