Why use both sorts of quotes?

Please never use the Latin "e.g." instead of the English "for example".

I'm really not sure about the punctuation there. How about:

This is recommended unless multiple device (MD) support is compiled
into the kernel and all partitions are marked as belonging to MD
arrays with type 0xfd. (Only those will be started automatically by
the kernel.)

I'm not entirely clear what "marked as belonging to MD arrays" means
here. Does it just mean "have type 0xfd"? It's too late here now.

What does much greater than 2.6.14 mean?

s/run the checks/check

Enabling this option is recommended.

Otherwise seems clear enough.
