Without, does it reflect your system?

This is what I am trying to figure out: is it mdadm which fails, or
my initramfs script.

Could you boot with metadata=1 and the break=mount kernel option,
then at the prompt, edit /scripts/local-top/mdadm and add set -x at
the top, then save and run

  . scripts/functions
  . scripts/local
  mountroot

and try to figure out where the error happens?
