Martin,

I'm attaching the log from strace.  The issue only occurred when I ran
--assemble.  I created an array, ran test (-t), stopped it, etc, all fine.
Running this seemed to segfault me:

mdadm --assemble --scan /dev/md5

Here is some additional history of what I ran in case that relates also

# mdadm --create --verbose /dev/md5 --level=5 --raid-devices=3 /dev/sda5
/dev/sdb5 /dev/sdc5
# mdadm --detail -t /dev/md5
# mdadm -S /dev/md5

I edited mdadm.conf at this point and added this line:
ARRAY /dev/md5 super-minor=5

# mdadm --assemble --scan md5
(segfault)
