My previous reply is that. Your patch /I think/ just prevents the
error because RAID won't ever be stopped. This is different from the
status quo in that it doesn't try at a point in time when it'll fail
anyway.

The downside is that other arrays will not be stopped with your
method.

I'll look at this again when I can work on mdadm again, but I don't
think the patch is going to get into the package. Sorry. :/
