The output file is enclosed. The system was dist-upgraded to lenny but I'm running it under 2.6.18 kernel from etch.

The script was breaking at the 
"zcat /boot/initrd.img-$(uname -r) 2>&3 | cpio -t 2>&3 | egrep '/md[a/]' >&3" line, so I commented it out to get a fuller output. See the enclosed file for the respective errors.

Also, it may be important to know that while running etch I manually used to run "mkinitrd" to rebuild the boot image every time etch kernel was changed (security updates, etc.) This was done to add mdadm module to the boot image.
