Please try with mdadm 3.1.1-1 from unstable and see if you can still
reproduce the problem. Please make sure that /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf
is correct.

If you still see the problem, please include the output of

  /usr/share/bug/mdadm/script

run as root in another e-mail.
